The Norsk Hytte
A Rustic
Vacation Cabin on the back forty acres above Jordan Creek |
|
This replica of a Norwegian vacation cabin is quite rustic. Its modeled after one
our Norwegian cousins have in Norway.
Most of the time
these cabins only consist of a
table, a few chairs, a basic bed and a stove to keep the inside
warm enough when the snow and the temperatures outside are falling.
We've made this one a little nicer. Two 100 Watt solar panels on
the roof, batteries under the bed, LED lighting, propane heater, hot
plate and fresh water piped from our spring.

Begun in 2003, we've had fun upgrading this rustic
little cabin in the woods

Hytte is a difficult word to translate. From
the American perspective it means vacation cabin. The Norwegian word represents generations of outdoor
recreation and living: it’s the
place to return to after a day’s activities, and represents all that is
cozy, warm and relaxing with family.
Located
within 20 miles from Puget sound, our property is an unusual lowland
forest with 100 acres of hills and cedar groves backed by a stunning
1700’ vertical rock cliff, and sparkling Jordan Creek running along its
base. With miles of trails meandering through the quiet woods you will
be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without
sacrificing easy access to some of Snohomish County's most famous
attractions.
A hundred years ago, this land was homesteaded and logged. Remnants of
the huge old growth stumps and cables and pieces from the 1900’s steam
logging can still be seen in places. Since then, the land has been left
to its own devices, passing through several hands, most famously owned
by Earl Ingebright in the 1960s who built a truly amazing cabin in the
forest. It was revamped and updated in 2023 by a master craftsman,
using local fir and hand-cut millwork and is now a unique structural
work of art, available for overnight stays.
Whether it's kayaking the local rivers, exploring the nearby mountain
loop highway trails, tasting award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour,
horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride, you won't have far to drive
if you make our tree farm your base camp. You may notice a family of
deer appear suddenly, or see over twenty species of wild birds that
grace this protected spot, so bring your binoculars! A limited number of
private, widely spaced camp spots are available for visitors. Our Forest
Cabin is isolated and you may or may not even be aware that there are
other people within miles of you. For those who value nature, seclusion,
quiet and the artistry of a one-hundred-year-old second growth forest,
this is the place for you.
