Here's that classic Copenhagen shot of buildings near Nyhavn. Our hotel was about a 10 min walk from here and it was the starting place for most of our exploring.

The Copenhagen Mermaid
I have probably ruined the picture by circling all of the tourists having their picture taken at this moment in time. We could not figure out why it was so popular.
Unveiled on 23 August 1913, The Little Mermaid was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen. Carl Jacobsen fell in love with the character after watching a ballet performance based on the fairy tale at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.
The brewer was so captivated by both the fairy tale and the ballet that he commissioned the sculptor Edvard Eriksen to create a sculpture of the mermaid.
The sculpture is made of bronze and granite and was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land.

Many old warehouses along the water have been converted to flats
A statue of David (not Michelangelo's original one, though) proudly stands in front of the Royal Cast museum. The statue's greenish hue was beautifully contrasted with the reddish bricks of the building behind it.
