Departing Basel Switzerland
Seven day Rhine Cruise to Amsterdam

The ship was so long, it would not fit in the frame... 189 passengers

Large upper deck

What a way to see Germany

Lots of cargo on the river going both ways

Mid-Rhine had a castle on every turn

More cargo traffic

This castle was on an island in the middle of the river.
Note it is a part of the one on the hill in the background

They would stretch an iron chain across the river and stop boat traffic and collect tolls, taxes or take cargo. Many of the castles did this but this one took it to a whole new level

There is no-way we could identify these castle photos after shooting non-stop
Check this link to a map we were given.

Strassbourg Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Strasbourg, Alsace, France. Although considerable parts of it are still in Romanesque architecture, it is widely considered to be among the finest examples of late Gothic architecture.
At 466 feet, it was the world's tallest building from 1647 to 1874 (227 years), when it was surpassed by St. Nikolai's Church, Hamburg. Today it is the sixth-tallest church in the world and the highest still-standing structure built entirely in the Middle Ages.

Astronomical Clock
This was in one corner of the church and really amazed us. This clock was remarkable both for its complexity as an astronomical device and for the range and richness of its decorations and accessories. As well as the many dials and indicators - the calendar dial, the astrolabe, the indicators for planets, and eclipses - the clock was also well endowed with paintings, moving statues, and musical entertainment in the form of a six tune carillon.
At the base of a clock there was an 34" diameter celestial globe, accompanied by the figure of a pelican. The globe was connected to the clock movement, and set for the latitude of Strasbourg.
