New Bridge |
|
April 2020, time to construct a new footbridge across
Jordan Creek
We found these two in a pile of discarded logs by the logger. They were
evidently old dead standing cedars . The logs were, solid with no rot or
defects |

Here's Brandon hooking up a chain to remove the
original temporary bridge.
We wanted to use it as a work platform next to the new bridge.

Using the Valhalla
Komatsu PC40 Excavator to make jobs easy
Here the excavator to pulls discarded cedar butts to
our work area
|
Here's another nice one
Note the rotted center. This happens to most cedars and the reason they
were left after the logging. We used a wedge and heavy tools to make our
own thick boards from the outer portion
|
Using a wedge, axe and maul to split 2"x 60" decking
boards.
Cedar splits into nice strait-grained boards.
The raised grain ensures a no-slip surface.

Setting the new boards on the base logs for fit and
form
Note the old bridge used to walk on. Cedar has a composition to resist
rot

Fit and prep for fastening.
The split cedar boards will have "non skid" due to the raised grain edges.
This will make the bridge very stable for walkers even during wet
weather

Here's Grier doing the final set and mount
We hired Urban Frontier for
this job |
