LED Overhead Light Project |
|

We needed to light this dark basement hallway with
something unique using ordinary materials |

10 Watt LED
1000 Lumens $2.95ea
Found at
my favorite electronics surplus store |
|
|

Three LEDs in series connected to a 30watt supply
This is a test fixture to see if these things even worked.
They worked so well and were so bright that you couldn't even look
directly at one
LED Driver power supply $8.95
same store |

These LEDs need a 100 square inch heat sink.
We used the 10x10 sides from a tin cookie box
Tests showed there was no significant heat rise
|

A generous dollop of thermal compound for good heat
transfer
|

A juice can for a "down light" fixture |

wired up and screwed to a cross piece of 1/2" plywood |

Painted flat-black and ready for install.
Power supply was mounted in a 4x4 electrical box with cover and toggle
switch and wired into existing light switch circuit |
