Beaver Detector

The Beavers decided to plug the culvert under the service road. This was becoming quite a problem. One idea we had was to design and build a "beaver detector" Was it successful? Well it did detect activity and did reduce the work on the open culvert end...temporarily!

The electronics are housed in a rainproof box facing the open culvert pipe end where they were plugging it with mud and debris. When the beaver would begin his nightly work, the system would sound a siren and flash a bright light.

Here's a view of the front. The system consists of an IR heat detector, a siren and strobe light and associated control relays. A deep-cycle RV battery provides 12 Volt power.

The relay package has a latching relay and pilot lamp so we would know if the system had been triggered.
